This encourages you to find extra weapon stores or go into weapon rooms even if you have your preferred load out. Dupes with their own traits stack onto your already equipped version. Picking up dupes gives a free upgrades to your existing weapon/magic. Here are just a couple of ideas of the things that could be on the maps.ĭupes of weapons/magic now have a chance to appear outside of the shop. If you find the exit early, there's no incentive to see the rest of the map.īy providing other means of upgrading your repertoire via things you can find on the map, you can solve the scarcity of upgrades and exploration incentive issue at the same time. When you have a load out you like, and relatively healthy, there's no reason to explore. This can also serve as a way to address a different issue the game has which is the value of exploration. The second, way is to increase the number of ways to get upgrades. This doesn't directly solve the oddity of upgrades only being able to be from one place, but it does basically render it a non-issue. Or it could be by floor, where if you don't run into one by the end, the second to last room offers one. This could be by room, whereby after a certain number of rooms go by without an offer for a control room, the game forces one into selection on non-boss/non-first rooms. The first is to just guarantee the offer of a control room at some regular interval. ![]() There's obviously any number of creative solutions, but these are the ones I've been able to come up with that involve minimal change to the rest of the game's systems. Well I have two ways to possibly address the issue. And if you're good at the game, then it becomes THE most dangerous thing to get screwed on by RNG. And if a control room doesn't appear, you're not getting upgrades, period.īehind healing, this is perhaps the second most dangerous thing to get screwed on by RNG. Upgrades can only be gotten from control rooms. Heck, even Gold Ingots can be randomly dropped.Īlmost everything else in the game has multiple ways to get it in a run, except Upgrades. Prismarium has its dedicated rooms, but there's three you can go into for a chance (Prismarium Deposit, Soulary/Prismarium, and Either Vault or Hazard I forget which at the moment). Weapons can be found in their dedicated rooms, side paths, or as drops from forced encounters. And the associated curse items for reroll and penalty negation can also be found in multiple ways. You can get Healing, and HP and Mana upgrades either as rare drops, dedicated rooms, or from the shop, especially if you upgrade the shop.Ĭurses are given at regular intervals either by random chance in rooms, in its dedicated room, or after bosses. You get Soulary at regular intervals from forced encounters, from dedicated departments, or as rare drops. ![]() This over reliance on a single avenue to empowerment is also quite confusing when you look at literally every other resource in the game. Becoming an exercise of frustrating, sloggy, tedium. Without it, in the final department, your scythe may still be dealing 10-15 damage on enemies with hundreds of HP. You basically have to take the control room or else suffer the chance of never getting power boosts the rest of the run. It's to the point where it's almost not even a meaningful choice if you have the resources to spend. ![]() If you can get multiple in a run, even better. is that it is the only way to upgrade your scythe, cloak weapons, and magic.Īs a result, it is almost necessary to run into a Control Room at some point in your run in order to get power boosts that can make a serious difference in your run.
